Very Soft, Very Chewy, Kinda Thin Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is one of the cookies that results when you use an iPad app called Cookulus, which lets you customize the qualities of a chocolate chip cookie by moving three sliders to different settings between crispy and soft, thin and thick, and chewy and crumbly. (If you have the app, this cookie's settings are crispy/soft, 4; thin/thick, -2; and chewy/crumbly, -4; or you can just make it from this recipe and eat something delicious.)
SERVINGS: 24 COOKIES
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons unbleached flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
7 tablespoons (7/8 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature
3/4 cup lightly packed light or dark brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 large egg
1 1/3 cups semisweet chocolate morsels
If you plan to bake more than one sheet at a time, position the oven racks in the upper and lower thirds of the oven; preheat to 390 degrees. (To bake one sheet at a time, use the middle rack.) Line 1 or 2 baking sheets with silicone liners, parchment paper or aluminum foil.
Combine the flour, baking soda and salt in a small mixing bowl.
Combine the butter and brown sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer or hand-held electric mixer; beat on medium speed until creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
Add the vanilla extract and egg, and mix until smooth.
By hand, stir in the flour mixture until well incorporated, being careful not to not overmix. Stir in the chocolate morsels.
Scoop tablespoon-size mounds of dough, spacing them about 2 inches apart on the baking sheets.
Place the baking sheets on the upper and lower oven racks; bake for 4 minutes, then rotate the sheets top to bottom and front to back. Bake for 3 minutes.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets until set, 2 to 4 minutes; serve warm, or transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely before storing.
